The Importance of a Content Calendar | 42 Post Ideas
In my previous post I mentioned that I would share with you all my content calendar / how I plan my weeks. I also decided to create a graphic of 42 post ideas for you all! I just learned the importance of a content calendar, I hadn't used one before but once I started using one it literally became a game changer.
Content Calendars help in so many ways. It's a way that you won't be running around each morning trying to decide what you're going to post. Do you know how stressful it is when you know you want to post on Instagram but have no content to post or have no idea what you want to post? If you plan your content a week in advance it gives you time to brainstorm, shoot, edit, and get ahead on your work. Right now I plan my content a week in advance but I'm trying to get even more ahead. I know some boss babes like Amber Fillerup and Jeanne plan their content monthly. So as January is happening their content is already pre-planned and they are working on planning and creating for February content. That is serious #goals!
I use a weekly content calendar. Right now I just use my my apple calendar on my macbook but there are plenty of free calendars you can use, just google some. Below I'm going to show you how I plan my weeks.
I have each section marked off with a different color: Green is general, Pink is my work stuff, blue is blog content, and purple is Instagram content. I start with Monday, this past Monday was a holiday so I took the day off so I went ahead and started planning for Tuesday. I knew I needed to do some work stuff so I went ahead and put the lovely Megan's name down because that's who's branding I would be working on for the day. I also knew for blog content I wanted to get this content calendar post finished and published for you all. Lastly, I added in that i needed to get up an Instagram post, something I do everything. In the next photo you will see how I decide on what Instagram post to create.
As you can see I have different colors each day for blog, instagram, and work content. This helps me stay organized.
As you can see here I clicked on one of my "events," as apple calendar calls them. For my Instagram post I wrote little notes, which I do with each event I create. My goal is to post a full body outfit shot, but if not, feature my new pink booties I got. Most of the time, I shoot in advance, so depending on how my feed looks will decipher if I post a full body shot or just the pink boots. If I think the pink boots will look best, next in line on my feed then I will post those. I decipher what looks best by using apps like Planoly and Unum, where you can pre-plan your feed.
For another example I wanted to show you another event that I created for the week. This is an example of my blog "event." I want to work on some Valentines Day graphics, so in the notes I put "gift tags, printables, etc..." These are two main things I know I want to create so I went ahead and added them so that I wouldn't forget and so I'd have a general idea of what I want to work on when I sit down to do it.
This is just one way I plan my content Calendar. I know when first starting off, creating a content calendar can be tricky so I wanted to include some ideas on what you can post. I created a calendar of 42 post ideas that will help you kick off your content calendar!
